 +==== GTA2 What Went Wrong? ====
 +
+Despite my original intentions of awaiting an editor, I recently went out and bought a copy of GTA2. I must admit, after playing the demo I was pleasantly surprised. Things weren't as bad as they looked.
 +
+The gameplay is good fun and the missions work well, but that's all a matter for the review. What this is about it what went wrong, or more importantly, why it went wrong.
 +
+Since GTA came out and everyone realised that multiplayer was crap the words on all our lips were "Don't worry, it'll be sorted in GTA2". So why, I have to ask is GTA2 multiplayer across the Internet just as sluggish as GTA?
 +
+My site now carries almost 2700 user cars for GTA. I would say that about 1000 of them are more detailed, realistic and aesthetically pleasing than what we've got in GTA2.
 +
+Thirdly, it's a well-known fact in the community that GTA, although being a great game in its own right, would not have lasted for almost two years without the intervention of Jeff Matthews. The ability to edit the cars in GTA is what made it so much fun and kept it fresh.
 +
+DMA claim that they're interested and pleased with the online following of GTA. I know that some members of the team keep a close eye on a lot of sites. This is great. If every games developer was in such close contact with their fans there would only be great games. At least that's what I should be saying. Despite these three issues being pushed and pushed on websites, on message board and in the GTA newsgroup, DMA still found it advisable to ignore the fans, or should I say the customers, and make a game that is, quite frankly, not what it could, no, should have been.
 +
+The only possible reason I can see for this is what I was saying when the time limited demo was released. DMA were trusting the fact that, due to the huge success of it's predecessor, all the die hard fans would buy the game no matter what, and the other gamers would buy it for the new "arcadey" features.
 +
+Quite frankly I find this thought repulsive. DMA have a duty to keep their customers happy. If they don't, their reputation gets blemished and no one buys their games. It's as simple as that.
 +
+I'm a big fan of DMA's games, ever since Lemmings, but I'm not at all a fan of their pr policies.
 +
+Maybe I'm being too harsh. Maybe they will release an editor, with full technical support, and release some decent looking car packs. Maybe they'll figure out a way to make Internet play at least acceptable, although when you design a game with the sole intention of making it single player it's a bit hard to do a quick fix.
 +
+Still there's always a chance. If they don't sort themselves out soon though I think many die hard fans like myself will be looking elsewhere once the novelty of GTA2 has worn off.
 +
 +Fingers crossed.
